Sir John Jordan in a telegram dated the 27th July (copy of which is enclosed) has asked what is to be done with shares in China Companies reconstructed as British Companies which ought to be allotted to enemy shareholders. Lord Grey suggests that such shares should be dealt with in the same way as shares of a new issue, and that the legislation to be passed with re- gard to shares of a new issue which would be allotted to enemy shareholders should also deal with shares in a China Company re- constructed as a British Company which would be allotted to

enemy shareholders.

I am,

sir,

Your most obedient,

humble Servant,

Walter Townley

fn the CONTROLLER.
